The Greybeards are mysterious and powerful, fans know little about them and even less about the Dragonborn's mentor, Arngeir.
Arngeir is unlike any NPC in Skyrim. He is a powerful mage who uses Thu'um and Shouts to serve his master,Paarthurnax. He teaches the player how to control and best use this power and serves as a useful mentor and incredibly cool NPC.

However, just like the Greybeards themselves, Arngeir is surrounded by so much mystery that even those who have clocked in over 100 hours in Skyrim are yet to discover the secrets he holds.
9 HeOnly Has Six Dragon Shouts
It's occasionally mentioned that the Greybeards know all shouts except Dragonrend. Now it's worth mentioning that the number of Shouts the Greybeards have is unknown, but it is lore that Arngeir only has access to six.
Thoseare Disarm, Fire Breath,Frost Breath,Ice Form,Unrelenting Force, and Whirlwind Sprint. While this doesn't mean Arngeir isn't powerful, it does give a good insight into his studying and mind and they are some of the best Shouts in the game.
8 He's The Only Greybeard Who Can Talk
While this isn't exactly rare knowledge, it can easily be missed when discovering a brand new badass power. Nevertheless, it isn't the fact that is so interesting, more the discussion that is had surrounding it.
Many fans have delved deep into the game to find a reason for this and a story behind why Arngeir is the only Greybeard who can talk. Is this so he can serve as a teacher? Or is it purely because he isn't powerful enough? Or is it that he has simply mastered the art of speech and the Thu'um, something the others are yet to discover?
7 The Highest Level NPC In The Game
At a huge level 150, the player would be wise to stay away from trying to battle this badass Greybeard. He is, without doubt, the highest level NPC in the whole of Skyrim, which arguably makes him the most powerful. However, that fact is certainly up for speculation.

Fans will have more than likely seen Plummer on their tv screens before without realizing his connection to this wonderful game. Nevertheless, it's great Bethesdaput someone as brilliant as Plummer to voice a character as brilliant as Arngeir.
5 He Is The Weakest Of The Greybeards Lore-Wise
There is a considerable amount of debate and speculation regarding Arngeir's power. He is known to be the only one who can speak without using the Thu'um, which causes him to be seen as not quite to the level of the other Greybeards. But on the other hand, he is the leader of this faction and seems to be the closest to his master.
Ultimately, lore-wise, Arngeir is in fact the weakest Greybeard and serves as a translator to the others. While he may seem powerful to the Dragonborn or other NPCs, that is not the case when it comes to his friends.
4 Arngeir Lived In And Around 4E 201
Since this is an entirely different realm, the years are slightly different. Nevertheless, Arngeir lived in the 4th era, a whole 207 years after the death of Sotha Sil. However, due to his age, in which many suspect him and the Greybeards to be around 70 - 90 years old, he has certainly seen his fair share of history.

Arngeir has knowledge and wisdom that many NPCs and players can only dream of when it comes to Skyrim. Therefore, you should watch out for those interesting speeches or droplets of wisdom that make this wonderful place that much richer lore-wise.
3 All The Greybeards Are Nords
Feels a little exclusive but maybe that's whatPaarthurnax prefers, and Skyrim does supposedly belong to the Nords.
In the first era,Jurgen Windcaller suffered a huge defeat at The Battle Of The Red Mountain and concluded that this was because the Nords were punished by the gods for their misuse of the Thu'um.Therefore, the Greybeards were created to worship these gods and make sure that defeat never happens again.
Ultimately, the Greybeards were created by Nords, so it only makes sense that it would be upheld by them too.
2 Low Magicka
By initially looking at Arngeir, many players will assume he is Magicka based, rather focusing on his powers as opposed to wielding a sword or bow. However, examining his stats reveals that heonly has 50 Magicka.
This is a huge contrast to the 1292 health and 1043 stamina hidden under his mage's robe. While this is surprising, shoutsdo notuseMagicka;therefore, ifyou're someone who solely worships the Thu'um, why invest in something as useless as Magicka?
1 If Paarthurnax Is Killed Arngeir Will Refuse To Talk
This goes unnoticed because not many players end up killingPaarthurnax but if they decide that's where they want to go then they'll make an enemy of Argeir pretty fast. However, this isn't necessarily something to be feared since he won't actually turn hostile and use his extremely high levels to kill you where you stand.
Arngeir will simply refuse to help you or tell you where certain shouts are. Ifyou do intend to killPaarthurnax, pick the right time and place, butalsoremember that the Greybeards will forever hate you. Luckily, they won't kill you.
As A Follower Arngeir Uses A Bow
If the player uses console commands and makes Arngeir into a follower, they'll be disappointed to find out that he doesn't use the shouts he's best known for. Instead, he optsfor a
hunting bow.It's a shame the game doesn't utilize Arngeir's immense power when made into a follower. However, at the end of the day, he isn't really supposed to be one so it's unsurprising that Bethesda refrained from making him the most overpowered follower in Skyrim.
